Athletics South Africa (ASA) president James Moloi has been suspended the week after being accused of misusing federation funds.
ASA mentioned on Monday that its board met over the weekend and gave Moloi till Friday, 31 October, to clarify why he shouldn’t be suspended.
The allegations come from a report by the South African Sports activities Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc), which adopted an investigation into how ASA cash was spent.
In line with Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Sport, Arts and Tradition, Moloi allegedly used an ASA bank card to entertain visitors at a tavern and to purchase gadgets at a ladies’s clothes retailer.
ASA mentioned the investigation does not finish with Moloi, different senior officers, together with the performing CEO and finance supervisor, will even face scrutiny.
Moloi was first elected as ASA president in 2021 and re-elected earlier this 12 months.
