London Marathon 2026: World champion Peres Jepchirchir withdraws

World champion Peres Jepchirchir has withdrawn from this month’s London Marathon.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion was identified with an unspecified stress fracture after ending second within the Valencia marathon in December.

That delayed the beginning of her coaching for London and the 32-year-old Kenyan has now advised race organisers she should withdraw.

Jepchirchir received the 2024 London Marathon in a girls’s solely world-record time of two hours 16 minutes and 16 seconds.

“I used to be solely capable of resume coaching in late January,” she stated in a press release.

“I do know that to be aggressive on the London Marathon you must be at your prime stage and regardless of my greatest efforts, I am simply wanting that resulting from my lack of coaching.”

Jepchirchir missed final yr’s occasion in London due to an ankle harm.

The 2024 Olympic champion Sifan Hassan had already withdrawn from this yr’s race on 26 April having suffered an Achilles harm.
